What the Premium Deluxe Kit adds

The Premium Kit is the top-tier content pack: digital outfits and bonuses that extend beyond Musashi to the wider cast — non-playable characters whose looks you would otherwise never see, a point value-focused players were quick to raise.

Capcom's announcement framing — if you look closely, you may see some nostalgic bits — points at series callbacks, and fans immediately spotted a red armor set reminiscent of Samanosuke's armor from the original Onimusha. It is similar rather than a faithful reproduction, but the callback is deliberate.

Physical confusion

Steelbook vs Premium Deluxe: what US buyers actually got

US retail caused real confusion at pre-order time. GameStop offered standard, deluxe and steelbook tiers, and players asked whether the steelbook edition was the equivalent of the digital Premium Deluxe. Capcom's own site showed a steelbook edition that could not be ordered.

The structural answer: the US never received a physical Premium Deluxe tier. Buyers choosing physical steelbook got a case-and-disc product at a lower tier than the digital Premium Deluxe, while Japan and Europe received true physical premium editions. Players wanting both the steelbook and the top digital kit had to buy separately.

Sentiment on r/Onimusha is genuinely divided. The loyalty camp pre-ordered without hesitation — 'just preordered the premium kit. $100, but Onimusha deserves every penny' — crediting Capcom with reviving a dormant series that shaped their early gaming years.

The value camp disagrees just as firmly: 'Not for a bunch of digital only extras.' The recurring counter-argument is that everything in the kit is cosmetic, the game plays identically on Standard, and a complete-edition sale will arrive within a year or two.
