Shoot the hanging masks in order

How the room explains the answer

The matching masks near the opposite wall provide the clue. Walk around to the other side of their screens and examine the light passing through them. Each produces a different number of illuminated openings.

Match one opening to the first shot, two to the second, and so on. These counts refer to the corresponding hanging masks above the cage. Always count positions while facing that cage so left and right stay consistent.

Take the key back to the locked door

When the sequence is accepted, the cage opens. Collect the Unsettling Mask before leaving the room, return toward the Underground Level Three Spirit Mirror and place it in the earlier door’s mechanism.

If the cage stays shut, check that you shot the hanging masks in the cage room and counted from the correct side. Let a wrong sequence reset, then enter all four shots again.

Red threads and Oni Refuge blocks

Red threads are a different obstacle: use Oni Vision to trace them to a Thread Genma, then kill it. The creature sustains the obstruction, so attacking the sealed gate alone is ineffective.

In the Oni Refuge, use the Oni Bow on the circular targets of moving blocks. Inspect from another platform if you cannot see the required target. These obstacles use the bow and Oni abilities, rather than the Laboratory’s mask sequence.
