Quick Answer
There are 18 boss entries in the Boss Rematch list, including enhanced versions and paired fights; that is not a count of 18 different characters. Use the directory below to find the right encounter. Open Boss List for enemy classes, threat levels and weaknesses. Use Boss Fight Guide with Strategies for preparation and failure diagnosis, or a named guide for detailed attack cues.

The numbering follows the Boss Rematch menu, not a step-by-step story route. Enhanced, Altered and Fully Armed entries are distinct encounters; the Nue pair and Greater Nue are also separate fights. Check the full name before applying a strategy for another version.

How to enter Boss Rematch
The Practice Ground unlocks during The Oni’s Apprentice. Return to the hall at your temple base, ring its bell to enter the Practice Ground, then speak to Takamura. Select Boss Rematch, choose an available opponent and choose an unlocked difficulty.
A campaign clear and a rematch clear are separate records. For Glutton for Punishment, every opponent must show completion across the rematch difficulties. Clearing an opponent on a higher difficulty also credits the lower difficulties; check that opponent’s completion marks before repeating fights unnecessarily.
- Prepare for Carnage and its locked difficulty
- After the credits: Continue, cleanup or New Game Plus
- Follow the full achievement route
| What you need | What to check |
|---|---|
| Enter the mode | Unlock the Practice Ground through The Oni’s Apprentice, then use the hall bell and Takamura’s Boss Rematch menu. |
| Find a particular boss | Check its exact entry and variant. If it is unavailable, continue story progression and return after clearing the encounter. |
| Select Carnage | Finish the campaign once to unlock Carnage; a fresh first-playthrough save does not offer it. |
| Finish Glutton for Punishment | Check all encounter entries and difficulty completion marks, including variants and paired fights. |
| Finish True Onimusha | Clear the campaign on Carnage. This is a different objective from rematch completion. |
Pick the right kind of practice
Use a Practice Ground drill when the input itself is unfamiliar. Use Boss Rematch when you understand the input but keep misreading a particular enemy. For a story roadblock, start by naming the attack or resource problem that ended your last attempt.
Enemy behavior beyond boss fights
These guides cover enemies and mechanics that can appear outside a boss arena. Genma Puppets are not another named boss, and a weak-point guide does not replace the instructions for a specific encounter.

Frequently asked questions
How many bosses are in the list?
The Boss Rematch menu lists 18 encounter entries. Some are enhanced variants, later versions or paired fights, so this is not a count of 18 different characters.
How do I unlock Boss Rematch?
Unlock the Practice Ground during The Oni’s Apprentice, enter using the hall bell, then speak to Takamura and choose Boss Rematch.
Do I have to beat each rematch three separate times?
A higher-difficulty rematch clear also credits its lower difficulties. Check the completion marks for every encounter and variant instead of assuming you must always repeat all three.
Does finishing the story complete Boss Rematch?
No. Campaign completion and rematch completion are separate. True Onimusha concerns the Carnage campaign, while Glutton for Punishment concerns the rematch list.
Is Genma Puppets another boss?
No. It is an enemy-behavior guide. Use the named fight pages for boss strategies.
