Onimusha: Way of the Sword Trophy & Achievement Guide

Onimusha: Way of the Sword has 52 offline trophies, zero missables and a 60-70 hour platinum rated 6.5/10 for difficulty. This roadmap follows PowerPyx's verified five-step route from Action difficulty through Carnage New Game+ to every Boss Rematch.

QUICK ANSWER

The short answer

Onimusha: Way of the Sword has 52 offline trophies (1 Platinum, 2 Gold, 9 Silver, 40 Bronze) with zero online trophies, zero missables and zero glitched trophies. PowerPyx estimates the platinum at 60-70 hours with a difficulty rating of 6.5/10. The route: play on Action difficulty up to the final mission The Clash At Rendaino (a free-roam point of no return with a warning prompt), clean up all collectibles and upgrades from there, beat the game, then run New Game+ on Carnage difficulty — which only unlocks after the first playthrough — and finish with all Boss Rematch fights on the hardest difficulty. Nothing is missable because choosing Continue on the main menu puts you back before the final mission. The hardest trophies are Glutton for Punishment (all Boss Rematches on all difficulties) and True Onimusha (beat the game on Carnage).

Five-step plan

The platinum roadmap in five steps

PowerPyx's verified route gets everything in two playthroughs plus cleanup. Start on Action difficulty — it doubles as practice for Carnage — and prioritize the three skills Oni Vision: Treasures, Oni Vision: Treasures 2 and Oni Vision: Search Range, which together make every collectible far easier to track. While exploring, hold L2 and tap R2 repeatedly so nothing slips past you.

  • Step 1: Play on Action difficulty up to the final mission, The Clash At Rendaino.
  • Step 2: Before the finale, clean up collectibles and upgrades — bank about 150,000 Favor, manual-save, max all Hozuki Pouches, reload, then max your three main Charms (full upgrades cost roughly 135,000 Red Souls).
  • Step 3: Beat the final mission — clearing the game once unlocks Carnage difficulty.
  • Step 4: Beat New Game+ on Carnage. You keep Awakened Oni Abilities, skill upgrades, Hozuki Pouches, items, Charms, Genma Notes and Lion Dogs; you lose Mysteries of Kyoto, Chance Encounters, costumes, sword and armor upgrades, Red Souls and Spirit Mirror progress.
  • Step 5: Clear every Boss Rematch on every difficulty in the Practice Grounds — beating a boss on the hardest difficulty auto-completes the lower ones, and finishing Carnage rematches earns a powerful weapon that trivializes the rest.

Boss trophies

Every boss trophy and how to earn it

All boss trophies are Bronze except the two Gold challenge trophies: True Onimusha for beating the game on Carnage (where there are no action prompts), and Glutton for Punishment for clearing every Boss Rematch on every difficulty.

Two fights deserve special notes. Against Benkei, dodging and blocking deal zero stamina damage — parry and Issen aggressively, because his stamina refills fast if he idles. Against Minamoto no Yoshitsune's third phase, only your own Oni Awakening state can hurt him: parry to fill the Blazing Gauge, unload in Blazing State to extract blue souls, transform the moment the gauge fills, and hold the R1 finisher until the gauge is nearly spent.

Direct answers

Frequently asked questions

How many trophies are in Onimusha: Way of the Sword?

52 offline trophies: 1 Platinum, 2 Gold, 9 Silver and 40 Bronze. There are no online trophies.

Are there any missable trophies?

No. There is free-roam right up to the final mission, The Clash At Rendaino, and after the story, choosing Continue on the main menu puts you back before that mission to clean up everything.

How long does the platinum take?

PowerPyx estimates 60-70 hours at a 6.5/10 difficulty, requiring a minimum of two playthroughs because Carnage difficulty only unlocks after your first clear.

Does difficulty affect trophies?

Yes. You must beat the game on the highest difficulty, Carnage (unlocked in New Game+), and beat every boss in the Boss Rematch arena on Carnage for Glutton for Punishment.

Where do I find the Boss Rematch arena?

In the Practice Grounds, unlocked during The Oni's Apprentice. Go to Emma's Hall, ring the bell in the corner to enter, then speak to Takamura and select Boss Rematch. Beating a boss on the hardest available difficulty completes all lower difficulties too.
